A 1950's era modern house built for a single woman needed a facelift and some reworking to fit its new owners, a young couple with children in the future. Michael Tauber Architecture concentrated on remodeling the two bathrooms and the kitchen.

The bathrooms: This remodeled master bathroom combines a powder room, accessible to the public functions of the house and a master bathroom in one large room divided by translucent (can not see through it) glass. The bath surround, counter and upper storage cabinets extend between the two spaces reinforcing the feeling of a larger space, while also accentuating the flow between the rooms. A skylight above the powder room provides a glow to the translucent glass.

Downstairs in the guest bath transparency of the glass shower enclosure, glass shelving and glass cabinet faces create help to create a bigger room feeling even though the room is small.

The kitchen: This kitchen modernizes and replaces the original smaller contained kitchen. The new "U" shaped cabinetry arrangement with a bartop peninsula provides a social environment for dinner guests and the owners alike. A continuous vaulted ceiling over the kitchen and dining room creates the sense of one big room. A hanging cabinet with glass sliding doors on either side reinforce this connection between rooms while helping to define the kitchen area.
