The task was made harder by the stated $9 per square foot budget. The starting point was developing a plan that would connect the two existing two story light wells running along two sides of the site and removing walls that blocked the connection of these two spaces.
Curved walls were added to further connect the two light wells and to allow for a natural flow through the space. The selective introduction of new carpet tile and bamboo flooring, and the staining of the existing structural slab provided a fresh look while fitting within the budget constraints.
