This
new water testing laboratory connects to, and upgrades
the appearance of, the existing stucco headquarters
of the Water District. The south ³public² face has high
clerestory windows which wrap the analytical functions
of the lab. These windows provide diffuse light into
the lab reducing the need for artificial light thereby
saving energy over the life of the building. A steel
and wood cantilever screen protects against glare and
heat gain while providing detail and texture to the
exterior stucco facade.
