859 Harrison

859 Harrison – Lobby Remodel

Our clients approached us seeking solutions to their current lobby dilemma. Currently, besides lacking in character, the two lobbies are disconnected.  Michael Tauber Architecture came up with multiple schemes that would bring the existing conditions up to ADA compliance and enhance the users’ experience while moving through the space.

Shown are two options. The first scheme with the orange graphics opens up the stair well connecting the lower and upper lobbies. The removal of the existing wall creates a double height space which connects the two floors and allows patrons a clear path to their destination. In addition a lounge area is provided and light from a proposed skylight will create a warm and welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy.

The second scheme is more drastic. It proposes the rearrangement of functions to their ideal locations – moving the men’s restroom to the back to centralize the facilities while giving the public space the commercial frontage. By moving the stairwell to the front, the upper and lower lobbies have a stronger connection and the limited glazing is maximizes to provide natural lighting to the public spaces.
